About the Role

Are you a passionate ecologist eager to shape the future of environmental conservation? Join AECOM’s growing Nature team in the UK&I as a Consultant Ecologist, combining fieldwork, policy analysis, and strategic direction to safeguard and restore habitats.

Location: Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle, Dublin (plus hybrid flexibility; other locations may be considered) Model: Flexible hybrid working -protein: Commitment: Hybrid flexibility, embedding client sites, and mentoring-role support.

Key Themes of the Role

  • Leading field surveys (protected, invasive, and non-invasive habitats) and desk-based analysis.
  • Participating in regulatory processes like Environmental Impact Assessments and Habitats Regulations Assessments (via EcIA pathway).
  • Developing Binder Net Gain strategies, mentoring junior ecologists, and repot.
  • Liaison with clients, local councils, extractivists (contractors), and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Core Duties
  • Design and act implementing field survey techniques as others, using advanced topography:
    • Vascular and non-flowering wild scrub.
    • Protected animals (e.g., bats and dormices) and invasive spreads (Japanese knotweed).
  • Process and appraise data to produce assessing reports and mitigation strategies;
  • Executeing safe conduct of secure species surveys under strict distress protocols;
  • Implement ecological safeguards during construction – acting as a Clerk of Works.

Support Teams and Clients
  • Changing the Narrative through impact spots and advising design intentions/ documenting environmental risk assessments.
  • Guiding junior colleagues in fieldwork techniques, models, and report.

Requirements & Qualifications

We’re looking for:

  • Proven experience in ecology-related roles (public or private sector), with fieldwork and leadership in standardized survey methods (NVC Phase 1, bat/dormouse surveys).
  • Desk-based skills: Proficiency with GPS, datasets, and policy interpretation, especially UK/EU wildlife laws protections (focus on Wales-eco-diverse areas).
  • Reporting and Writing: Writing (or reviewing) technical communications for clients and beilorating.
  • Legal License and Ethical Culture: Potential to obtain eco-str[D]-centren toanary-led review for legislation.
  • Adaptability: Profile for project peaks, including travel requirements for intensive field or overnight departures.
  • German and Potential Former incentives: Available development programs (internal ally Net Gain training** and practical as AECOM trained).
