Part-Time 8PA Consultant Haematologist, Dorset County Hospital
We are seeking a dedicated Consultant Haematologist to develop our clinical and laboratory haematology service at Dorset County Hospital, Collaborating closely with a dynamic team of Clinical and Laboratory Haematology professionals in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
Role Overview
- Post Type: Part-time 8-hour night (8PA) consultant position
- Team: Supporting a team of four other Consultant Haematologists at Dorset County Hospital
- On-call Duty: Participation in Clinical Haematology on-call coverage on a 1:5 rota
- Specialist Focus: An anticipated emphasis on Myeloma sub-specialisation as the department evolves
- Potential Interview Date: To be confirmed
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Patient Care
- Provide general haematological expertise and manage multiple haematological conditions.
- Assume full clinical responsibility for inpatients under General Medicine arrangements.
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop an inclusive sub-specialisation model, with Myeloma as a key focus.
- Offer advice and guidance to: -Junior medical staff General Practitioners (GPs) via the consultant advice email system
- Provide continuous oversight for inpatient care and ensure comprehensive cover during illness and leave periods.
Out-of-Hours Commitments
- On-Call Duty: Available for call rotations with colleagues to ensure round-the-clock consultant supervision of the haematology laboratory and clinical pathology problems that arise outside regular hours.
- Emergency Response: May need to provide support in the laboratory during extended sessions when required by professional necessity, particularly during major emergencies or crises.

Research & Clinical Trials Engagement
- Demonstrate an interest in participating in clinical trials.
- Collaborate with the research department to facilitate and manage a portfolio of clinical trials.
Requirements

Qualifications & Experience:
- Medical degree (MBBS/BMBCh) with completing relevant training in haematology, including dedicated sub-specialist exposure (Benefit: preference given to applicants with a daquele interest in Myeloma).
- Strong grounding in general clinical and laboratory haematology.
- Experience working collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams.
- Evidence of commitment to high-quality patient care and disease education.

Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in managing a wide range of haematological issues in varied clinical settings.
- Ability to operate effectively after-hours, during emergencies, and under on-call conditions.

Operational Considerations:
- Availability for all on-call duties, weekend shifts, and acute medical scenarios, as established by the consultant group.
