Outstanding Paediatric Anaesthetist – University Hospitals Sussex (East)
University Hospitals Sussex (East) are seeking an exceptional paediatric anaesthetist to join their team, providing care for patients ranging from pre-term neonates to teenagers. Located in Brighton, the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital offers a dynamic environment where teaching, research, and innovation lead the delivery of this vital healthcare service.
This replacement appointment follows the relocation of a colleague overseas. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to refine and expand their clinical skills while driving service development across University Hospitals Sussex and its partner organisations.
Location & Working Arrangements
Aptitude for working across Brighton’s multi-site Royal Sussex County Hospital is required. Hybrid fixed and flexible working is offered, with weekly consultant-led lists adaptable to your sub-speciality interests—ranging from neonatal through adolescent care.

Core Responsibilities
- Providing anaesthetic care for a diverse paediatric patient population (neonates to teenagers).
- Developing and leading service improvements, with a particularly strong focus on quality and innovation.
- Participation in an outstanding medical education-focused department, including teaching at our affiliated medical school.
The role encourages experienced anaesthetists who can contribute to:
- Service expansion in procedures covering specialist paediatric needs.
- Quality assurance initiatives within and beyond hospital borders.
- Education and training—as part of our nation-renowned training team.
Note: Further duties description available upon request from designated leadership.
Key Requirements
Encompassing broad paediatric anaesthesia competency, including:
- Broad experience in neonatal, infant, child, and adolescent care.
- Abilities requisite for innovations in subspecialty areas (e.g., cardiac, neurosurgical).
- Record of prior or willingness to engage in service development.
