Consultant in Respiratory Medicine – North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust
We are seeking an active, forward-thinking Consultant in Respiratory Medicine to join our expanding team at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust. The ideal candidate will thrive in a clinical environment that values innovation, patient care, and collaboration, contributing to the advancement of Respiratory Medicine in the region.
About the Role
This is an opportunity to influence and develop our evolving Respiratory Medicine department, supporting a service that continually strives for excellence. The role involves:
- Flexible, team-based clinical work (10 Part-Time Approved (PTA) days per week)
- On-call commitments, including 1.5 PAs per week and coverage in General Medicine
- Active involvement in the Lung Cancer service, including roles within the National Lung Cancer Screening Programme (NLSSP)
- Participation in training and service development across specialist and general medicine
Responsibilities
Clinical & Patient Care
- Conduct general and specialty Respiratory Medicine outpatient clinics
- Provide inpatient ward care for respiratory patients
- Support the Peterborough Lung Cancer Service, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team
- Serve as the Responsible Clinician for the new National Lung Cancer Screening Programme, managing patient pathways for scan abnormalities
- Baseline scanners will be posted to detail on behalf of the programme

On-Call & Emergency Coverage
- Perform General Medicine on-call duties, including:
- Approximately 1 in 18 twilight shifts at the Peterborough site
- Coverage for 3 weekend and 3 weekly coverage shifts (acute medicine patients)
Education & Development
- Train and mentor resident doctors and the nursing team
- Commit to continuing professional development (CPD) and appraisal processes
Service Improvements & Leadership
- Represent the service in regional Lung Cancer programme coordination
- Engage with service development**, ensuring culturally safe, high-quality, and inclusive patient pathways

- Current or forthcoming GMC registration as a Respiratory Medicine Consultant
- Experience in Lung Cancer diagnostics/pathways and familiarity with respiratory care protocols
- Ability to operate autonomously in clinical governance
- Commitment to collaborative, measurable improvements in patient pathways
- Interest in training and equipping trainees with necessary skillsets
Preferred
- Experience with NHS screening programmes
- Familiarity with digital patient systems and 票務 landscapes
