Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon – Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
About the Role
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon to join the Directorate of Trauma and Orthopaedics. This is a full-time substantive post with an on-call commitment, available to commence as soon as possible.
The successful candidate must be fellowship trained and confident in managing the full spectrum of elective orthopaedic and trauma services. A subspecialty interest in Foot and Ankle Surgery is essential, with ideally experience in managing diabetic foot conditions.
This role offers the opportunity to join a dynamic and supportive multidisciplinary team, committed to delivering high-quality patient care and developing innovative orthopaedic services. You will contribute to the continued development of orthopaedic services within a progressive and forward-thinking speciality.

The post holder will support Orthopaedic service delivery and development across Lancashire, working closely within the wider regional network.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake elective and fracture outpatient clinics
- Participate in elective and trauma operating sessions
- Perform ward round duties, including associated administrative responsibilities
On-Call Commitment
The on-call rota consists of a 1:8 structure:
- 1 week of trauma on-call, shared with a colleague on an alternating day basis
- Outside on-call weeks, the timetable primarily comprises elective activity with occasional trauma operations
Working Locations
The post holder will work across two hospital sites:
- Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital
- Burnley General Teaching Hospital

The Emergency Department at Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital serves as:
- The sole Emergency Department for East Lancashire
- A designated Trauma Unit within the Lancashire Trauma Network
- Operates closely with the Major Trauma Centre at Royal Preston Hospital
Emergency services are further supported by:
- Urgent Care Centres at Blackburn and Burnley
- Minor Injuries Unit at Accrington
