Consultant Liaison Psychiatrist – Worthing Mental Health Liaison Team

Consultant | Full Time – 10 Sessions Worthing General Hospital, Worthing £113,565 – £150,569 per annum + £45,000 Recruitment & Retention Payment + up to £8,000 Relocation Allowance Closing date: 9 July 2026

Who can apply

We are looking for Consultant Psychiatrists who:

  • Hold (or are eligible for) GMC Specialist Registration
  • Are Section 12 approved and Approved Clinicians (or able to achieve this within three months)
  • Have excellent knowledge of adult mental illness and psychiatric emergencies
  • Enjoy working across physical and mental healthcare settings
  • Are passionate about collaborative, person-centred care and service improvement

The Role

As a Consultant Liaison Psychiatrist, you will provide expert assessment, formulation, and treatment planning for adults referred from the Emergency Department (ED) and inpatient wards.

Key Responsibilities

You will:

  • Lead daily handovers, referral triage, and complex case discussions
  • Deliver specialist psychiatric assessment and collaborative care planning
  • Manage presentations involving:
    • Mental illness
    • Neuropsychiatric conditions
    • Addictions
    • Functional disorders
  • Support multidisciplinary, multi-agency working across hospital and community services
  • Supervise resident doctors and teach medical, nursing, and paramedic students
  • Provide education and support to acute hospital colleagues
  • Contribute to service development, clinical leadership, and innovation across Sussex liaison services

This is a varied and intellectually stimulating role, where no two days are the same.


About the Service

Based within the Mental Health Liaison Team at Worthing General Hospital, you will work alongside:

  • Specialist Liaison Nurses
  • Rotational Doctors
  • Acute Hospital Teams
  • Community Mental Health Services
  • Primary Care and wider partner organisations

The service supports adults aged 18+ presenting with complex mental and physical health needs, delivering timely specialist assessment and intervention in a fast-paced acute setting.
