Senior House Officer / Part-Time General Medicine Consultant
Location: NHS Highland, Fort William

About the Role
We are at an exciting time in NHS Highland — Fort William, where a new hospital building is planned. Two committed and innovative General Medicine consultants are needed to help develop a hospital suited to the future.
Located in the UK’s outdoor capital, Fort William boasts stunning landscapes, rich wildlife, a low crime rate, excellent schools, and a friendly community. The town is also conveniently within two hours’ drive of Inverness, Edinburgh, and Glasgow.
Facilities & Current Hospital Setup
The current hospital features:
- A 21-bed Combined Assessment Unit for acute admissions
- A 2-bed High Dependency Unit with short-term critical care capability
- A 15-bed acute mixed/rehabilitation ward
The Belford Laboratory provides biochemistry, haematology, and cross-match services 24/7, while on-site radiology includes ultrasound scanning and CT facilities.
Key Responsibilities
You will:
- Provide broken general medical experience within a dynamic rural hospital setting
- Exert excellent communication and problem-solving skills, working collaboratively as part of an integrated team
- Support teaching and mentoring to specialist nurses, undergraduate students, and junior doctors
- Play a central role in the day-to-day management of patient care and hospital operations
- Foster wider clinical networks across Highland and beyond, with opportunities for development through the Scottish Rural Health Partnership
- Engage in research opportunities with the University of the Highlands and Islands and Aberdeen University
- Deliver flexible, adaptable, and patient-centred care tailored to individual needs

Requirements
To apply, candidates must meet at least one of the following:
- Be on the GMC Specialist Register with a valid Licence to Practise in General Medicine.
- Hold a CCT in General Medicine (CA-1 or later competencies accepted).
- This role accepts applicants within six months of obtaining CCT.
The posts are flexible and adaptable, with an individualised job plan developed upon hiring. Applicants not yet on the Specialist Register may be considered for fixed-term contracts initially.

Employment Details
- Working Hours: Full-time at 10 Paid Announcements (40 hours/week).
