Consultant Physician with an Interest in Diabetes and Endocrinology

Consultant Physician in Diabetes and Endocrinology

We are seeking applications from enthusiastic and innovative individuals keen to join our existing team of Consultant Physicians in University Hospital Wishaw (UHW). This is a replacement post. The successful candidate will join the 3 existing Consultants and one specialty doctor in diabetes and endocrinology, providing a comprehensive diabetes and endocrinology service.

Job Details

  • Position Type: Full-time post on a 10 PA basis, but applications will be considered from those wishing to work less than full-time.
  • EPA’s Availability: May be available for both part-time and full-time positions.

Key Responsibilities

  • DCC PA’s: Diabetes and endocrinology clinics, acute medical receiving, and in-patient care.
  • Research and Education: Encouraged and supported to develop specialty/sub-specialty interests to complement the existing services.
  • Commitment to Rota: Acute medical receiving rota (approximately 1 in 20) and in-patient care.

Department Support

  • Non-Medical Workforce: Supported by 2.6 WTE diabetes specialist nurses, diabetes dietitians, specialist podiatrists, and 2 endocrine nurse specialists.
  • Extended Scope Nurse Practitioner: Recently employed and trained in diabetes.

  • Regional Adrenal and Pituitary MDT Meetings

Clinics and Services

  • General Endocrinology Clinics
  • Diabetes Subspecialty Clinics: Including young adult diabetes, diabetic foot, type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and insulin pump/technology.
  • Obstetric Service: Lanarkshire centre for diabetes obstetric service with two outpatient clinics per week.

Educational and Research Opportunities

  • Affiliations: Close affiliations with the Universities of Glasgow, Strathclyde, Edinburgh, Dundee, and the University of West of Scotland.
  • Training: Commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate medical training.
  • Post-Graduate Medical Education: Active programme run at UHW throughout the academic year.
