We have an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our integrated Mental Health team at HMP Leeds, a category B men’s prison based in Leeds, Yorkshire. HMP Leeds is a remand prison with a fast-paced healthcare department that provides care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Within this role, you will be joining an established and experienced mental health team, who run a nurse-led service focused on a medical model diagnosis for complex health needs. Psychiatrist caseload of patients would be 4-5 patients per day.

Hours

  • 2 days (16 hours) per week, including Thursdays, with flexibility on the other day.

  • 20% of the role can be worked from home for admin or CPD.

Salary

This position is part-time, and you’ll receive an annual salary up to £190,000 per annum FTE - depending on experience.

How will we support you?

  • You will be part of a team of 20+ experienced and supportive Consultant psychiatrists.
  • You will be able to attend monthly Consultant's meetings and 1:1 clinical supervision.
  • Bespoke induction, including our Introducing Health in Justice training course.

Competency framework

Candidates are required to have a Legal right to work in the UK, and due to the nature of the role, offers of employment will be subject to additional vetting and security checks.

What you'll be doing

As a Consultant Psychiatrist, your responsibilities will vary. You will:

  • Provide excellent clinical care, assessment, and treatment to patients on the case load onsite.
  • Actively participate in the strategic direction of the mental health service, lead the senior mental health clinicians on service developments, and provide clinical supervision.
  • Work within the multi-disciplinary team to review referrals, determine appropriate treatment plans, conduct risk assessments, and engage in multi-professional complex case reviews.

Requirements

  • Registered professional with current registration (GMC)
  • Specialist Registration in either General Adult or Forensic Psychiatry
  • Approved under section 12 (2) of the MHS 1983
  • Understanding of the complexities of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working
  • Up to date knowledge in the adult psychiatry and PD
  • Awareness of current issues in mental health service provision, policy, and legislation
