Job Title - Consultant Psychiatrist
Location - London
Employment Type: Full-time
Salary: £170,000 – £220,000 per annum (DOE)
A private mental health clinic in London is seeking an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to join its multidisciplinary team, delivering high-quality psychiatric assessment and treatment to private, self-pay, and insured patients outside the NHS system.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments, formulate diagnoses, and develop individualized treatment plans
- Manage a caseload across general adult, and where relevant, specialist areas (e.g. mood disorders, anxiety, ADHD, addiction, perinatal, or old age psychiatry)
- Prescribe and monitor pharmacological treatment, including medication reviews and titration
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team including psychologists, therapists, and specialist nurses
- Liaise with referring GPs, insurers (Bupa, Vitality, AXA, WPA etc.) and other healthcare providers
- Maintain thorough clinical documentation in line with CQC and GMC standards
- Provide risk assessment and crisis management as required, with clear escalation pathways
- Participate in clinical governance, audit, and continuing professional development
- Where applicable, contribute to private inpatient or day-patient care oversight

Required Qualifications
- Full GMC registration with a Licence to Practise
- Included on the GMC Specialist Register for Psychiatry (or within 6 months of CCT at time of application)
- MRCPsych (Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists) or equivalent
- Minimum of 3–5 years' post-CCT consultant-level experience (or equivalent senior experience for CESR route)
- Section 12(2) approval under the Mental Health Act (desirable, depending on clinic scope)
- Approved Clinician status (desirable)
- Enhanced DBS clearance

Desirable
- Subspecialty training or a strong track record in a specific area (e.g. perinatal psychiatry, addiction psychiatry, neuropsychiatry, forensic, CAMHS transition)
- Experience working within a private healthcare or insurance-funded setting
- Existing relationships with private insurers or referral networks
- Medico-legal report writing experience
- Portfolio career flexibility (open to sessional/multi-site work)
