Consultant Psychiatrist in South West Short Term Support Team
South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) Looking to recruit a Consultant Psychiatrist for the South West Short Term Support Team (SWSTS) on a 12-month fixed term contract.
About SWSTS
SWSTS is part of the South West Living Well Centre (SWLWC), one of three locality Living Well Centres in Lambeth (serving North, South East, and SW). Each LWC includes:
- A Short Term Support (STS) Team, offering assessments and brief interventions
- A Focussed Support Team, providing medium- to longer-term care for people with mental health challenges and associated psychosocial difficulties
The three LWCs align with the developing Primary Care Networks (PCNs) across the borough.
The SWSTS is based at SWLWC alongside:
- South West Focussed Support (SWFS) Team
- South West Social Care Team Serving three PCNs: Streatham PCN, AT Medics PCN, and Clapham PCN.
Team & Workload Overview
- Referrals: ~80-85 new referrals per month, with ~75% accepted post-screening.
- Discharges: Avg. 60 patients discharged monthly to primary care or other teams.
- Overall caseload: ~200 active patients—shared responsibility with the co-consultant.
- Reviews: Conduct 15 scheduled reviews/week, including:
- Joint reviews with care coordinators
- Diagnostic clarification assessments

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership & Medical Input
- Provide senior medical input as Consultant Psychiatrist and Approved Clinician for SWSTS patients under the Mental Health Act (Section 12) where applicable.
- Serve on joint senior leadership for the SW Living Well Centre.

Cover & On-call Duty
- Offer out-of-hour senior medical input via Lambeth Consultant On-Call Rota (1:20) with a 1% banding (B) supplement.
- Provide reciprocal Approved Clinician cover during senior staff leave, study leave, or sickness within Lambeth.

Training & Teaching
- Clinical Supervisor for a full-time GPVT (General Practitioner Vocational Training) trainee.
- Supervise Year 3 medical students (King’s College London) during longitudinal placements.
