Job Overview
This is an opportunity to join Ivory Triage Ward, a highly performing female general adult mental health triage ward. The consultant psychiatrist is the clinical lead for a highly motivated team working in a busy and demanding environment.
Main duties of the job
The Successful Candidate Will Be Expected To Deliver:
- Consultant led assessment and management of service users admitted to Ivory Triage Ward.
- Effective clinical leadership.
- Advice and consultation to colleagues.
- Training and education.
- Effective supervision.

Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Fully registered with the General Medical Council
- On the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of eligibility to apply.
- Approval under Section 12(2) of Mental Health Act 1983 and Approved Clinician status, or eligible to apply once in post
Desirable criteria
- Higher training in approved training posts for minimum of 3 years and / or previous consultant training.
- Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (in accordance with Royal College of Psychiatrists guidelines)
- CCT in general adult psychiatry.
Knowledge
Essential Criteria
- Experience of clinical work in General Adult Psychiatry at ST4-6 or Consultant level within the last 3 years
- Excellent working knowledge and experience of the application of the Mental Health Act
- Appreciation and understanding of ethnic minority issues and a commitment to developing culturally sensitive practices
- Understanding of social factors relevant to psychiatry
- Experience of working in liaison psychiatry
Desirable criteria
- Experience of service development and introducing new services in mental health
- Inpatient experience at consultant level
ORGANISATIONAL SKILLS/ ABILITIES
Essential criteria
- Leadership skills
- Ability to work as a part of multidisciplinary, multi-model team
- Ability to manage complex workloads and support others to do that
- Consultation/liaison skills to services, teams and individuals
- Commitment to working in multidisciplinary setting
- Commitment to working with service users on service development

- Formal leadership and management training

- Ability to work in multi-disciplinary team and provide leadership for the team

We provide a wide range of community health and mental health inpatient services to children, young people, adults of working age, and older adults in The City of London, Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets, Bedfordshire and Luton. We also provide psychological therapy services to the London Borough of Richmond, and provide Forensic services to the whole of North East London. We provide services in urban and rural settings, sometimes in our inpatient units, but mostly in the community close to where people live. Integrated care is key in making the best use of resources and providing effective care.
