Consultant Psychiatrist
Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to make a full time appointment for a consultant psychiatrist to work in the well-established Mental Health Liaison Team based at Fairfield General Hospital. This is a substantive appointment. The appointee will have a lead role in consolidating the developments that have occurred within this service recently, helping the service continue to develop in order to meet the ‘Core 24’ standards defined by the Department of Health.
This is a rewarding and exciting post within a highly supportive environment and you will be working with a dynamic and responsive team.
The out of hours on-call frequency is low (1 in 30) with full second tier cover and 1 day off afterwards.
We offer ample opportunities for our consultants' professional development and opportunities for additional work for additional PA's (negotiation required).
You will be welcomed and supported in developing your skills and contributions to the borough, the wider organisation and beyond. These include clinical, liaison, educational, managerial and service evaluation roles. Clinical work will include assessment and interventions with patients in the acute trust and involve working with an expanding multidisciplinary liaison mental health team. The team will promote the development of skills in this area within the acute trust and pathway development.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
