Consultant Psychiatrist Vacancy – Acute Inpatient Ward, Southampton
Building on nearly four decades of experience, the UK’s leading provider of mental health treatments announces an opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our dedicated team at Priory Hospital Southampton.
This picturesque 18-bed inpatient ward in the New Forest offers a well-established NHS-contracted service, ensuring seamless collaboration with local NHS partners. The role supports individuals with chronic mental health presentations, providing high-quality, compassionate care.
Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership:
- Provide consultant psychiatric care for up to 18 inpatients, conducting comprehensive assessments, leading ward rounds, and delivering patient-centred treatment plans.
- Oversee disease management, ensuring dignity, respect, and clinical excellence.
- Inform effective discharge planning while ensuring safe, movement-focused discharge.

Team & Service Development:
- Lead multidisciplinary team (MDT) rounds and meetings, ensuring safe, collaborative decision-making.
- Supervise the Specialty Doctor, fostering clinical excellence and professional growth.
- Actively contribute to clinical governance, audits, and service improvement initiatives.
- Build strong relationships with NHS commissioners, local trusts, and neighbouring services to enhance multidisciplinary engagement.

Essential Requirements & Qualifications
- Must be GMC and Specialist registered.
- Experience in UK acute inpatient psychiatry, preferably within an NHS or independent healthcare context (minimum 5 years' experience in NHS acute wards).
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, adhering to high professional standards.
- Experience in treating chronic mental health conditions.
- Strong ability to build relationships with NHS partners and commissioners.
- Candidates not based in the area must be open to relocation.
