Consultant Radiographer
About the Role
The Consultant Radiographer is a senior clinical and leadership role responsible for leading and developing the plain film reporting service within Radiology.
The postholder provides expert image interpretation and reporting across the appendicular and axial skeleton, chest, and abdomen, ensuring reports are delivered to a high standard and within agreed timeframes. The role also involves professional leadership, governance oversight, service improvement, training, research, and audit activities to support excellence in patient care.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Reporting
- Provide expert interpretation and reports on plain films across skewletons, chest, and abdominal regions
- Ensure high standards and adherence to agreed timeframes for reporting
- Act as a specialist resource for complex cases, advising teams on best practice
Service Development & Innovation
- Lead service improvements to enhance patient care
- Drive audit, research, and quality improvement initiatives

Education & Training
- Mentor and supervise trainees, including Radiology Registrars, trainee Advanced Practitioners, and undergraduate/postgraduate learners
- Design and deliver training programs in advanced radiography and plain film reporting
- Support the development of future radiography professionals
Team Leadership
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and support for Reporting Radiographers, Advanced Practitioners, Radiographers, Assistant Practitioners
- Manage teams effectively, ensuring high standards of clinical practice
Required Expertise
- Extensive expertise in plain film reporting and image interpretation
- Proven clinical leadership acumen
- Commitment to quality, governance, and continuous professional development
- Strong service management and team supervision skills
