Consultant Radiologist with Specialist Interest in Chest Imaging
The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is looking for a Consultant Radiologist with specialist interest in Chest Imaging to support Lung Cancer Screening in a busy and expanding department, predominantly based at the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH), with responsibilities across both hospitals' sites.
Due to a rapidly expanding workload most interests can be accommodated. One cancer MDT is an expectation; a second interest can likely be accommodated. Lung biopsy skills are expected. The posts will include sessions at the two main hospital sites within an overall flexible group job planning format, with an agreed overall sessional make up as described below.
Apart from lung biopsy work, there is currently no dedicated respiratory imaging component such as a formal MDT. There may, however, be scope to develop a non-cancer MDT in the future, as much of this discussion is presently carried out informally through individual meetings or email correspondence with the chest physicians. The ability to cover the screening MDT would be highly valuable, and there may also be future opportunities to take on the Responsible Radiologist role.
Applications are welcome from candidates who wish to be considered for a part-time or flexible working arrangement. Contribution to an out-of-hours on-call rota is core to this role.
- Share in the general imaging workload and collaborate with colleagues to support tumour-specific and other sub-specialty reporting, using PACS.
- Contribute to the general work of the department, including reporting of the general radiographic examinations carried out within the main sites, as well as in the various community hospital locations in Shropshire and the CDC.
- Maintain a general Radiology practice while contributing to sub-specialty areas, as per departmental needs.
- Work flexibly according to changes in work patterns and requirements.
- Requirement to participate in the non-resident on-call and resident evening and weekend working. On-call overnight is outsourced from 8.30 pm to 8.30 am and weekdays and weekends after 5.30 pm to provide a more palatable and sustainable work pattern. On-site attendance will occasionally be necessary during on-call periods.
- General radiological sessions will include in- and outpatient cross-section as well as plain films and body ultrasound. General skills must be maintained to support the acute hospitals’ needs in evening and weekend working.
- Addressing GP and clinician queries and vetting are core to the role.
- Be involved in the organisation and administration of the Radiology Department and teaching of other clinical staff, including participation in regular clinico-radiological meetings with other Consultants.
- Be involved in the training of junior Radiology staff.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
