I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

As a Solution/Technical Architect within Insurance Architecture, you will:

  • Contribute across all six of our functional pillars on client engagements – with a particular focus on Applications, Integration and Data as well as AI, Cloud and Cyber Security – and grow toward becoming a future pillar specialist.
  • Help define and deliver enterprise and solution architecture artefacts (current-state, target-state, roadmaps and transition states, integration patterns, capability maps) for clients across Insurance and Financial Services.
  • Become familiar with and help to enhance our industry specific reference architecture frameworks, which form a core part of our proposition to our clients.
  • Shape and deliver discrete, high-quality outputs on engagements – from data integration designs and automation workflows, through to cloud strategy artefacts and proof-of-concept builds.
  • Build credibility with client stakeholders through clear, well-structured analysis and presentation, and contribute to thought leadership through blogs, brown-bags and skunkworks projects.
  • Bring your own perspective to growing and diversifying the Insurance Architecture team, mentoring more junior colleagues and helping us continuously raise the bar.

We are looking for candidates with experience and skills such as:

  • 5+ years of experience in technology roles – ideally with exposure to Financial Services, Insurance or another regulated industry – covering some combination of data, application, cloud, integration and security.
  • Working knowledge of data architecture concepts – including data modelling, integration, governance, visualisation and migration – and tools such as Databricks, Snowflake or equivalent.
  • An appreciation of how technology can solve complex business problems, and comfortable operating at the intersection of business and technology.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate ideas visually and adjust the level of detail for different audiences.
  • Familiarity with at least one major industry platform (e.g. FNZ, SS&C, Pershing, Guidewire, Sapiens, Duck Creek, Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics) is highly desirable.
  • A genuine desire to improve outcomes for clients and consumers, and willingness to travel within the UK and occasionally internationally.

Set yourself apart:

  • Passion and enthusiasm for innovating in the insurance and financial services industries, especially through automation, AI/GenAI and modern data platforms.
  • Curiosity about the wider Insurance Architecture pillars – Solution Architecture, Enterprise Architecture & System Design, Cyber Security – and a desire to develop depth in one or more.
  • Experience of how AI/GenAI can be used within architecture and the wider change process to improve delivery quality and efficiency, as well as where it could fit within our clients’ propositions
  • Ability to engage with stakeholders across business, technology and delivery teams, suppliers and clients, explaining the business rationale for architectural and technology choices as well as the delivery impacts
  • A distinctive emerging point of view that you can bring to internal forums and external events.
