The Role: Consultant Specialist – WPB Channels UK Self Service
Location: London, UK Team: WPB Channels UK Self Service (Self-Service Devices – SSD) Supervision: Under the oversight of the Global Head of SSD Engineering, with collaboration across UK and global SSD tech teams and cybersecurity partners.
Your Focus
You’ll lead and deliver secure, scalable, and reliable engineering for HSBC’s self-service device ecosystem — uncovering challenges, implementing solutions, and ensuring top-tier compliance. Key areas will include:

Core Responsibilities

IT Infrastructure & Software Development
- Support the operating systems, device imaging, and infrastructure software that power the UK self-service device network, including:
- Express bank tablets.
- Develop automation and simplification for self-service device operations.
- Incorporate new technologies into the Global SSD estate through Proof-of-Concepts (PoCs) and rigorous testing.

Troubleshooting & Troubleshooting Support
- Troubleshoot OS- and application-level issues to eliminate disruptions.

Security & Compliance
- Implement HSBC security standards before onboarding new technologies.
- Own the device patching and software upgrade lifecycle.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Ownership
- Provide technical consultancy for SSD software development projects.
- Assist third-party hardware deployment teams and technical support channels (SSD Helpdesk).
- Partner with cybersecurity teams, auditors, and executives to prioritise and remediate non-compliance findings.
- Support windows protection tools integration.

Initiative Leadership
- Participate in global SSD engineering initiatives, and be responsible for driving a few key projects.
What We Expect
Essential Skills & Experience
- Deep technical expertise:
- Extensive knowledge of Windows 10/Windows 11, cybersecurity (covers network standards and endpoint protection).
- Proven expertise in Enterprise Computing environments, with hands-on experience in:
- Active Directory, Group Policy Object (GPO) and System Centre Configuration Manager (SCCM / MECM).
- Scripting proficiency:
- Ability to write and maintain Bash, VB, PowerShell, or Python scripts in optimize GUI automation, tasks, and admin workflows.
- Agile & DevOps practices:
- Understand ITIL frameworks, Agile project methodologies, and problem-solving rotations common to banking-engineering environments.
- Exceptional troubleshooting and investigation proficiency.
- Engineering toolchain expertise:
- Familiarity with collaborative platforms such as Confluence and issue-tracking systems like JIRA.
- Project consulting experience:
- Proven ability to decompose requirements, manage end-to-end project delivery, and trouble-shoot across development lifecycles without heavy supervision.
