AECOM’s Planning and Stakeholder Engagement team is recruiting Consultant Town Planners to support a national portfolio of projects, primarily in large-scale infrastructure development. Flexible with nearly full remote working, your base location can be one of our UK offices in: Basingstoke, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Chesterfield, Leeds, London Aldgate, Manchester, or Plymouth.
Your Responsibilities
As part of a market-leading team, you’ll:
Planning & Development Management
- Assist in managing and delivering major planning applications.
- Provide plasticity advice to colleagues and clients, including permitted development applications.
- Conduct planning research, analysis, and risk identification.
Technical Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare Planning Statements and Design and Access Statements for development proposals.
- Work closely with the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) team for coordinated project delivery.

Project Coordination & Delivery
- Help coordinate multi-disciplinary teams across various project types.
- Support project management activities to ensure successful outcomes.
- Implement quality assurance and health and safety principles.
Business Development & Commercial Support
- Contribute to preparing tenders for commercial projects.
Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration
- Attend and participate in internal/external meetings.
- Foster strong relationships with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders.

Requirements
Qualifications & Skills
- Licentiate Member (LIC) of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) or an equivalent professional qualification, with full accreditation in development.
- Demonstrated experience in major planning applications and sustainable development projects.
- UK planning policy/legislation expertise, including national/specific planning controls.
- Experience with Development Consent Orders (DCOs) and/or Transport & Works Act Orders (TWAOs).
- Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) knowledge.
- Risk evaluation/management skills for planning applications.
