We have an opportunity for a Consultant Town Planner. AECOM’s Planning and Stakeholder Engagement business is recruiting Consultant Planners to help deliver our growing portfolio—across a range of sectors, principally focused on large-scale infrastructure.

As our Town Planning team is national and supports hybrid working, flexibility exists around base location. You can join us from offices in:

  • Basingstoke
  • Birmingham
  • Bristol
  • Cardiff
  • Chesterfield
  • Leeds
  • London (Aldgate)
  • Manchester
  • Plymouth

Key Responsibilities

You will be part of a market-leading, experienced infrastructure planning team with the following responsibilities:

Planning & Development Management

  • Assist in the management and successful delivery of major development applications.
  • Provide dynamic planning advice—including interpretation of permitted development rights.
  • Carry out planning research and risk identification.

Technical Reporting & Documentation

  • Prepare Planning Statements and Design and Access Statements to support development applications.
  • Liaise with the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) team to ensure coordinated project delivery.

Project Coordination & Delivery

  • Help coordinate multi-disciplinary teams across diverse project types.
  • Assist with project management to support successful outcomes.
  • Implement QA and health & safety principles.

Business Development & Commercial Support

  • Contribute to successful tender bids through preparation and proposal support.

Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration

  • Participate in internal and external meetings.
  • Build strong working relationships with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.

Requirements

Professional Qualifications

✈ Licentiate Member (Mayor� dermatitisح of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) or equivalent professional body, fully dedicated to progressing to membership (MRTPI).

Technical Expertise

  • Experienced in major planning applications (DCOs, TWAOs, Rural Planning Orders, local developments).
  • **Proficient knowledge of planning policy & legal frameworks at national and local levels.
  • Applicable experience with Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) methodologies.
  • High ability to identify, evaluate and manage planning risks.

Commercial & Consultancy Skills

  • Strong commercial awareness with excellent clear and concise written communication.
  • Consultancy experience, including budget management, programme oversights, and stakeholder engagement.

Collaborative & Relationship-Driven

  • Client-focused, with strong interpersonal skills and drive for excellence.
  • Proven experience in multi-disciplinary teamwork.

Project Delivery & Technical Competencies

  • Quick work, meeting deadlines under pressure.
  • Fluency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Project).
