Consulting Actuary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Consulting Actuary to join our Actuarial Consulting team.
This role is suitable for members of an actuarial team that are keen to pursue a consulting role and will usually include working towards being a Scheme Actuary or Corporate Actuary, developing own portfolio of appointments. It may also include the role of a Team Leader, which involves working alongside others involved in Client Consulting, to ensure that all operational tasks within the team are conducted on a day to day basis and liaising with Partners to agree priorities.
Our services are designed to support trustees and employers by delivering pragmatic advice which brings clarity to complex issues such as investing assets, de-risking, longevity, risk management and the impact of legislative changes. We undertake a range of services for clients including full-service actuarial consulting, investment consultancy and standalone projects such as mergers and acquisitions. We offer excellent progression opportunities through to Partner.
Client Consulting
- Acting as the main contact, providing advice for a range of clients
- Assist Partners in managing client relationships, identifying any problems that arise and helping resolve them as soon as possible
- Attend client meetings and identify ways that we can help our clients and report new initiatives.
- Review draft client reports and advice
- Use of a variety of techniques and theoretical principles to establish probability and risk in respect of areas such as pensions
- Check work of other team members, ensuring accuracy and compliance with scheme rules, procedures and legislation
- Identify opportunities for new business and assist in new business tenders, including participating in the pitch to the potential client
Team Management
- Responsible for team workload and activity, actively managing the team and attending firm-wide Actuarial Team Leader meetings
- Maintain a broad knowledge of current pensions issues and proactively advise clients on relevant developments in the pensions world
- Manage a client team, ensure work is of a high quality and within agreed timescales
- When leading the corporate accounting appointment actively look for opportunities to support the company with other relevant BW services
- Peer review colleagues work where appropriate

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
