Contaminated Land & Remediation Consulting Associate
Site Investigation and Remediation (SIR) Team | UK-Based | Field-Focused Role
About the Role
ERM is seeking a motivated, hands-on Contaminated Land & Remediation Consulting Associate to join its Site Investigation and Remediation (SIR) team in the UK. Reporting to program managers and partners, you’ll contribute to fascinating site investigation and remediation projects across the region, with progressive responsibility for task and project management.
This opportunity blends real-world fieldwork with office-based deliverables while nurturing the experience needed to pursue professional registration. The role requires regular travel and field-based work, so commitment to mobility and hands-on tasks is essential.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will execute a diverse range of duties, including but not limited to:
- Site fieldwork & supervision:
- Conduction of walkovers, soil/groundwater sampling, and contractor oversight.
- Routine monitoring of invested contractors during site investigations.
- Technical deliverables:
- Producing environmental desk studies, site investigation reports, and verification reports (field + office work).
- Reviewing and contributing to fee proposals for future engagements.
- Analysing data (e.g., soil/groundwater samples) and presenting findings clearly.
- Project progression & skills development:
- Assisting with financial management of small-to-medium projects via training.
- Building competence to lead tasks independently (with escalation to senior teams as needed).

Who We’re Looking For
🔹 Experience
- Proven appetite for outdoor work—this role is 90% field-based, requiring regular travel and site visits (UK and potentially overseas as required).
- Experience in environmental consultancy, preferably in:
- Site investigation, risk assessment, or mitigation studies.
- Fieldwork supervision (e.g., of contractors/technicians).
- Active industrial sites or remote locations (preferred but not mandatory).
- Preferred qualifications:
- Degree in environmental sciences, hydrogeology, geology, geochemistry, or chemistry (consideration for non-degree qualified candidates with relevant experience).
- Full UK driving licence (essential due to frequent site mobility).
