Your Role and Responsibilities

About the Role

IBM Consulting seeks a highly motivated and ambitious individual to join as a Digital and Technology Solutions Degree Apprentice on a Public Sector client-facing project. You will alternate between on-the-job work at IBM and study for a Digital and Technology Solutions degree with one of IBM’s university partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Client Engagement: Collaborate with clients to identify business challenges and propose digital and technology solutions to enhance their capabilities.
  • Solution Development: Design, develop, and implement technology-driven improvements, including process optimisation and system integrations.
  • Data Analysis: Analyse complex datasets to uncover trends and insights that inform critical business decisions.
  • Communication: Clearly articulate technical concepts and recommendations to clients and stakeholders through written reports and verbal presentations.
  • Team Collaboration: Work effectively in cross-functional teams to deliver projects and meet client expectations.
  • Learning & Development: Participate in training programs to expand expertise in areas such as digital transformation, cloud computing, AI, data analytics, and agile methodologies.
  • Technology Skills: Develop proficiency in tools and platforms, including cloud technologies, data analytics, AI, and agile practices.

Apprenticeship Structure (Digital and Technology Solutions Degree)

As an apprentice, you will earn while you learn through:

  • Technical and business skills in areas like:
    • Information systems
    • Systems development
    • Data management
    • Project management
    • Computer networking
    • Infrastructure
  • Specialist modules tailored to a technical pathway (e.g., becoming an IT Consultant by 2026—subject to business needs).

You’ll also experience university life, attend sessions alongside apprentices from other organisations, and engage in interactive learning.

Requirements

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Location and travel: Roles are in-office, minimum 3 days/week (no remote option). You must live within commutable distance of one of these hubs:
    • London
    • Manchester
    • Hursley (Winchester)
  • Mobility: Willingness to travel to client sites or IBM locations, including overnight stays.
  • Residency & eligibility:
    • Must have valid UK residency and the right to work without sponsorship.
    • Roles may require security clearance.
  • Clarifications: Must meet criteria explicitly (no alternatives allowed).
  • Educational requirements:
    • GCSE Maths and English (Grade 4/C or equivalent)—proof of equivalency may be requested.
    • UCAS points: Minimum 120 points (equivalent to BBB at A-Level). Predicted grades require proof upon results.
    • Sixth-form education: Must be a school/college leaver must—no previous apprenticeships or university courses in relevant fields.
  • Passion for technology: Strong interest in STEM subjects, though prior study is not mandatory.

Specialist Pathways (2026)

  • IT Consultant (dependent on business needs and wishes).
