About the Role
The Wellcome Trust is a global charitable foundation. We improve health for everyone by funding science, leading policy and advocacy campaigns, and building partnerships.
We plan to spend £16bn over the next ten years, funding new discoveries in life, health, and wellbeing, and taking on three global health challenges: mental health, infectious disease, and climate and health.
These challenges need the bold science we support, but they won’t be solved by science alone.
We are looking for a Content Lead to join our Corporate Affairs – Communications team.
Where in Wellcome will I be working?
You'll join the News and Content team within Corporate Affairs, reporting to the Head of News & Content and leading a team of seven digital content specialists. Working closely with colleagues across Communications, Brand and Corporate Communications, Media and Planning, and Wellcome's programme teams, you'll play a key role in shaping how the Wellcome Trust communicates its mission and work to audiences around the world.
What will I be doing?
As Content Lead, you will lead the development and delivery of Wellcome's digital content strategy across all of Wellcome Trust’s work, ensuring our content is insight-led, audience-focused, and aligned to organisational priorities.
- Oversee the creation, optimisation, and distribution of compelling digital content across owned and paid channels.
- Translate complex scientific and policy topics into clear, engaging stories that strengthen Wellcome's influence and reputation.
- Use audience insights, analytics, and AI-powered tools to shape editorial direction, identify emerging opportunities, and continuously improve performance.
- Lead and develop a high-performing team, providing editorial leadership, coaching, and capability building.
- Work collaboratively with senior stakeholders across the organisation to deliver integrated communications campaigns and respond to emerging issues.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
