Content Manager

Digital Content Expert – Arthritis UK (London)

About the Role

A 18-month contract position to create, optimise, and manage engaging digital content that improves user experience (UX), accessibility, and search performance while supporting Arthritis UK’s charitable mission.

This role sits within the Digital team, reporting directly to the Head of Digital at their London office, with 2 days in-person presence per week. A competitive salary of £43,580 is offered for this ASAP start opportunity.


Key Responsibilities

Content Creation & Optimisation

  • Develop and publish high-quality, user-centred digital content that aligns with brand guidelines, editorial best practices, and SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) / AEO (AI Search Optimisation) strategies.
  • Optimise content for search engines using metadata, headings, internal linking, and AI search principles to boost visibility.
  • Ensure accuracy, accessibility (WCAG 2.1 compliance), and inclusivity in all digital materials, applying plain English principles.
  • Improve UX (User Experience) through data-driven content decisions, focusing on clarity, readability, and user engagement.

Content Strategy & Project Management

  • Plan, execute, and deliver content projects, including supporting campaigns and new digital products.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with stakeholders (e.g., marketing, digital, accessibility teams) to meet content needs and advocate for high-quality outputs.
  • Use content analytics (Google Analytics 4 / Umami), SEO insights, and user research to continually refine performance.

Technical & Analytical Work

  • Leverage CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress, Drupal) to manage, update, and optimize content efficiently.
  • Interpret data (KPIs, engagement metrics, accessibility audits) to inform content strategy and partnerships.

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Experience writing for charity, nonprofit, or health-related audiences, with a strong understanding of accessibility challenges.
  • SEO, AEO, and AI search knowledge, including on-page optimization techniques.
  • Hands-on experience with CMS platforms, analytics tools (GA4, Umami), and audience research methodologies.
  • Project management skills (e.g., Agile, scrum) to deliver content strategies under deadlines.
  • Proficiency in UX/accessibility principles (WCAG 2.1 standards) and stakeholder management.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and adaptability in structuring content for different audiences.
  • Analytical mindset to translate data into content improvements.
  • Strong organisational, communication, and time-management skills to juggle multiple requests.
