Contentious Probate Solicitor

Contentious Probate Solicitor

As part of our continued growth, we are seeking an experienced and motivated Contentious Probate Solicitor (5+ PQE) to join our expanding Private Client function on a full‑time basis.

At Bell Lamb & Joynson, contentious probate is a growing area of work. The department advises clients on a wide range of inheritance and estate‑related disputes, including will challenges, Inheritance Act claims, executor and trustee disputes, and estate administration conflicts. We want to build a reputation delivering advice that is clear, pragmatic, and firmly grounded in achieving the best possible outcome, whether through negotiation, mediation, or litigation where required.

The role is initially office‑based, moving to a hybrid arrangement following completion of probation. The successful candidate will manage their own varied caseload with minimal supervision and play an active role in more complex matters. You will be confident handling emotionally sensitive issues, building strong client relationships, and balancing robust legal analysis with a commercial and proportionate approach to dispute resolution.

Strong drafting, advocacy, and communication skills are essential, together with the ability to mentor junior colleagues and contribute to the wider development of the department.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
