We are seeking an ambitious and motivated Contentious Probate Solicitor (NQ–4 years PQE) to join our specialist team, handling a broad range of contentious trusts and probate matters.
The role can be based at either our Huddersfield (Edgerton) or York office, depending on your location, where you will work closely with our Legal 500-recognised Head of Department. We offer a degree hybrid working once established in the role, but would look for a minimum of three days in the office. While we would prefer a full-time candidate, we are open to considering part-time applicants (minimum 30 hours per week across four or five days) for the right person.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a rapidly expanding department. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in contentious probate, general litigation, or private client work who are looking to specialise in this growing area of law. You will manage your own caseload under supervision and play a key role in strengthening the department’s reputation, as well as contributing to business development initiatives.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
