Role: Contract Java Engineer needed
Location: Remote, for a Bristol based client
Rate: £400 - £450 per day, outside IR35
Duration: 6 months
Start: ASAP

Overview

Our technology partner, who design complex electromechanical products, are seeking an experienced Contract Software Engineer to deliver defined packages of work against a roadmap of maintenance releases for a complex, long-established software platform comprising desktop, server, web, and embedded components. The engagement requires strong experience in Linux-based systems, multi-language development, and making safe, well-scoped changes within mature production environments and legacy technology stacks.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong Java development experience
  • Experience maintaining and enhancing large legacy software systems
  • Strong Linux development and troubleshooting experience
  • Experience with native application development and debugging
  • Experience with PostgreSQL and database-driven applications
  • Experience working with build systems such as Make, Autotools, Ant, or similar
  • Experience supporting production applications across desktop, server, and web
  • Strong understanding of networked and distributed systems

Package of Work Context

This contract engagement focuses on delivering agreed maintenance release packages for an established multi-language platform deployed across desktop, server, web, and embedded environments. Work will be organised around defined release objectives, defect remediation, compatibility updates, and targeted enhancements, with clear deliverables aligned to existing build, release, and operational processes.
