Senior Contracts Lead – Commercial & Contracts Team
THE TEAM
At JSM Group, our Commercial & Contracts team ensures the smooth delivery of infrastructure projects across the UK. As the business grows, we are seeking a Senior Contracts Lead with a sharp commercial mindset and experience in infrastructure, utilities, or construction. This role will shape how we manage contractual risk, support strategic decision-making, and keep our projects on track.
SCOPE OF ROLE
Reporting to the Group Legal Director, this role sits at the intersection of legal, operational, and commercial functions. As a trusted advisor on contract and risk matters, you will:
- Work closely with project teams, supply chain partners, and senior leadership
- Ensure contracts are commercially sound, understood, and aligned with business objectives
- Operate from our Potters Bar Head Office with hybrid working flexibility
HOW YOU’LL SUCCEED
You will be responsible for:
- Leading contract strategy and negotiations across high-value projects (£5M–£75M)
- Reviewing and shaping commercial agreements (supplier terms, construction contracts, NDAs)
- Proactively identifying and mitigating contractual risks early
- Providing commercially focused advice on contract interpretation and obligations
- Managing the full contract lifecycle, from heads of terms to closeout
- Collaborating with Commercial, Operations, and Finance teams
- Acting as a sounding board for dispute avoidance and early resolution
- Translating complex legal language into clear guidance for non-legal stakeholders
- Improving contracting processes and templates across the business

WHAT WE REQUIRE
You will bring:
- Strong commercial and contract experience in infrastructure, utilities, or construction, ideally with quantity surveying background
- Expertise in NEC/FIDIC/JCT contracts
- A track record in negotiating and managing complex, high-value contracts
- An ability to identify and challenge risks confidently
- A solutions-oriented mindset, balancing risk against operations
- Clear communication skills for both commercial and non-commercial stakeholders
- Hands-on experience in dispute resolution (negotiation, mediation)
- This role suits ex-commercial managers or senior quantity surveyors looking to expand into contract-risk leadership
