The Opportunity
At West London Waste Authority (WLWA), we aren't just managing waste disposal; we are transforming how our community across West London views resources. We are seeking two dynamic, detail-oriented Contract Managers to join our team at a pivotal time. You will play a leading role in managing our critical waste services, taking ownership of the full contract lifecycle — from procurement strategy and negotiation through to contract mobilisation, compliance oversight and management of variations. This high-impact role will place you at the forefront of improving operational performance, ensuring our waste services, including haulage and offtake contracts, as well as contract-managed infrastructure improvement projects, are legally robust, commercially sound and aligned with our strategic business plan.
What You'll Do
- Manage outsourced waste service agreements end to end, ensuring KPIs, SLAs and regulatory requirements are met so services run safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
- Lead procurement and tendering for new services, with support from the Internal Senior Procurement Manager, including negotiating terms, drafting service specifications and securing value for money.
- Oversee the mobilisation of new contracts and service transitions, ensuring a smooth start and no disruption to service continuity.
- Manage contract variations, resolve operational challenges and implement service improvements as our waste management strategy evolves.
- Act as the main point of contact for assigned contracts and services, using data-led reviews and effective contract management to drive performance.
- Identify opportunities throughout the contract lifecycle to improve resource recovery and divert more waste from disposal.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
