Role Overview

As a Contract Surveyor at Hill, you’ll manage the commercial and financial elements of residential projects—ensuring costs are controlled, value is maximised, and delivery stays aligned with budget, programme and employer requirements.
Whether managing a project independently or working as part of a wider commercial team, you’ll bring expert insight to procurement, reporting, payments and subcontractor relationships—helping drive strong performance across every phase of development.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and manage accurate cash flows, cost plans and contract sum analyses
- Procure and administer subcontractor packages, including valuations, payments and final accounts
- Produce monthly cost value reconciliations (CVCs), forecasts and outturn summaries
- Identify and deliver cost savings and value engineering opportunities
- Coordinate with Technical and Production teams to resolve risks and achieve programme milestones
- Lead commercial discussions with subcontractors and support client final accounts
- Maintain proactive communication and ensure timely resolution of commercial queries
- Ensure subcontractor performance reviews and contract documentation align with ISO9001 standards
- Attend design and coordination meetings, contributing commercial insight
- Uphold H&S compliance and legal standards in all commercial activities
- Mentor Trainees when required and promote a collaborative, solutions-led culture

What We’re Looking For
- Relevant qualification (e.g. HND/HNC or degree in Quantity Surveying or Construction)
- Working towards or holding RICS or CIOB membership
- Experience as a Quantity or Contract Surveyor in residential development
- Confident in managing procurement and subcontractor performance
- Skilled in remeasurement, cost reporting and risk analysis
- Strong commercial awareness and excellent numeracy
- Proficient communicator with effective stakeholder engagement
- Knowledge of UK Building Regulations and health & safety requirements
- Familiarity with groundworks, piling, RC frame and brickwork is an advantage
