Role: Contract Technical Lead

Programme: Azure Databricks Platform

Industry: Commodities / Energy Trading

Location: London (Hybrid)

Contract: Initial 6-month contract (long-term transformation programme)

Rate: £900-1000/day (Inside IR35)

X4 Technology are partnered with a leading global energy trading organisation delivering a major transformation, centred on the migration from a legacy ETRM platform to Endur and the modernisation of their enterprise data landscape through Azure Databricks.

As part of this multi-year programme, the business is migrating Oracle-based data platforms into Azure Databricks to create a scalable data platform supporting Endur, global reporting, analytics and risk, while reducing critical data latency from 10–15 minutes to near real-time.

They're looking for an experienced Technical Lead to define the technical direction of the Azure Databricks platform, driving architecture, performance optimisation and engineering best practices across one of the organisation's most strategic cloud modernisation programmes.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
