To aid us in our ongoing expansion plans, we are looking to recruit an experienced Contracts Advisor / Contracts Lead based at our Stockton-on-Tees headquarters, who will play a key role in managing commercial risk and supporting the successful delivery of projects across the business.

Working closely with technical, project, finance, business development and senior management teams taking a pragmatic approach to managing contracts with existing customers to minimise risk when winning new business to support our growth into new customers, regions and sectors.

Our business approach is focused on building long-term relationships with our clients to support them through the full asset life cycle. In this model, we engage clients in a number of ways including fixed price, reimbursable, and multi-year framework agreements.

The role will operate UK-wide into the target regions: North East, North West, Humber, and Scotland and target sectors: Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals, Oil & Gas, Food, Bulk Storage & Distribution, Renewables, and Energy.

This position offers a great opportunity for an experienced commercial professional to take ownership, and drive the improvement of contract activities serving a diverse client base, within a dynamic, expanding organisation. As well as supporting improvements in our client onboarding process and proposals management.

Responsibilities

  • Managing the commercial on-boarding of new clients and suppliers, including due diligence and approval processes.
  • Reviewing, negotiating, and agreeing client and supplier contracts, terms and conditions, frameworks, and amendments taking a pragmatic approach.
  • Meeting with customers to discuss business and legal matters.
  • Identifying, advising on, and managing commercial and contractual risks, ensuring alignment with company risk appetite and insurance arrangements.
  • Supporting bids, tenders, and proposals by reviewing commercial terms, pricing structures, and contractual obligations.
  • Supporting effective supplier and subcontractor management.
  • Advising project teams on contractual obligations, entitlements, and dispute avoidance, and supporting resolution where issues arise.
  • Developing and maintaining standard contract templates, guidance notes, and commercial procedures.
  • Supporting governance and compliance activities, including contract registers, audits, and internal approvals.
  • Providing commercial guidance and training to internal teams to improve contract awareness and risk management.
  • Building and maintaining strong working relationships with clients, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Supporting preparation and submission of strategic proposals with the AXIOM teams.
  • Supporting Business Development / Account Management personnel during capture planning activities for key proposals, ensuring that winning themes are identified and captured within strategic bids.
  • Maintaining close interaction with senior leadership stakeholders within AXIOM to identify and implement commercial improvements to the contracts, sales, and proposals process, and take responsibility for process governance and quality.

Essential

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Business Management, Engineering, or a related field with strong contract law knowledge.
  • Previous experience in contract management, ideally within the field of Inspection and Engineering Consultancy services.
  • Strong knowledge of AXIOM’s core market sectors, such as Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals, Oil & Gas, Food, Bulk Storage & Distribution, Renewables, and Power.
  • High attention to detail, negotiation skills, ability to work under pressure, and strong communication skills.
  • Appreciation of current best-practice and solutions generation in the aforementioned technical fields, to aid dialogue with technical personnel both within AXIOM and our client base.
  • Professional manner, as the candidate will at times be the sole representative of the business in client interactions.
  • Enthusiastic with a can-do attitude.
  • A valid full UK Driving Licence.
  • Computer literate and competent in the use of Microsoft Office.
  • Able to travel on occasion to AXIOM’s UK-wide offices and clients across the UK to discuss enquiries and submitted proposals.

Working Environment

This role will be based at our Head Office in Stockton-on-Tees. Travel to client sites around the UK, as well as AXIOM’s other offices (Grangemouth, Humber, Runcorn) can be expected periodically as the role will be supporting AXIOM’s overall UK operations.
