Contracts Manager/ Quantity Surveyor

Quantity Surveyor – Commercially Driven Cost Specialist

We are seeking a commercially driven and detail-oriented Quantity Surveyor to manage project costs, support financial performance, and enhance overall profitability across key operations.

This role focuses on ensuring project budgets are met, managing variations in cost and time, and providing strategic cost insights to production teams to drive efficiencies and minimise risks.


About the Role

The Quantity Surveyor will be pivotal in improving cost and time control processes, helping the business optimise financial outcomes and operational decision-making.

A key contributor must be proactive, identifying savings opportunities, managing commercial risks, and fostering continuous improvement in cost management practices.


Key Responsibilities

  • Budget & Cost Control: Manage and oversee project costs to ensure budgets and commercial targets are achieved.
  • Variations & Contract Alignment: Administer and manage variations, ensuring compliance with contractual terms and financial integrity.
  • Financial Reporting & Forecasting: Monitor and report on project financial performance, including to Plan and forecast movements.
  • Cost Analysis & Feedback: Provide cost analysis and strategic feedback to production teams to support operational efficiency and decision-making.
  • Cost-Savings Initiatives: Identify opportunities for cost reductions and process improvements across projects.
  • Process Development: Support the improvement and implementation of strengthened cost and time control systems.
  • Contract Interpretation: Apply contractual requirements practically in a live project environment.
  • Commercial Resolution: Assist in resolving disputes and inconsistencies in project documentation.
  • ** Collaboration**: Work closely with clients, engineers, and site teams to ensure aligned commercial objectives.

Key Requirements

  • Qualifications:
    • Degree (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related engineering discipline.
    • Membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) is desirable but not essential.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong understanding of contract management and commercial principles, particularly JCT or NEC contracts.
    • Proven ability to manage cost control, variation control, and financial reporting.
    • Standard experience in construction, engineering, or manufacturing project environments.
    • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and project specifications.
    • Good comprehension of resolving discrepancies between design, specification, and site conditions.
  • Analytical & Mathematical Proficiency:
    • Strong mathematical and analytical skills for cost estimation and quantity measurement.
