Overview
If you're a Control and Instrumentation Engineer ready to be the go-to technical authority for an entire site's control systems, this role offers the chance to own the complete control and operational technology estate. You will ensure everything from the control system layer through to site IT is safe, compliant, and running at its best, while connecting the site with wider group and shared-service teams in a chemical and process manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Act as the site's technical authority for control systems and OT/IT infrastructure
- Make controlled programming changes to the DCS and PLCs, following proper management of change and commissioning discipline
- Set and maintain site standards covering alarms, overrides, cybersecurity, and IEC 61511 compliance
- Look after the site's protective systems including interlocks, trips, and SIL-rated functions
- Maintain the wider infrastructure from controllers and networks through to historians, servers, and backups
- Investigate plant performance issues through structured investigation and root cause analysis
- Support the Engineering Manager in planning and controlling control-system and IT budgets
- Act as subject matter expert on capital projects that touch the control and OT scope
- Coordinate with group-level and shared-service teams on standards, strategy, and issue resolution
- Drive a safety-first culture and full compliance with UK legislation and site safety, health, and environmental requirements

Requirements
- Degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Control Systems, or Instrumentation and Electronics
- Strong background with distributed control systems, including both software and hardware architecture
- Familiarity with virtualised control-system environments, including replication and failover
- Hands-on PLC experience across platforms such as Allen-Bradley and Siemens, plus SCADA and ladder logic
- Functional safety certification to 61511/61508 for safety instrumented systems
- Working knowledge of OT cybersecurity practices and management systems
- Structured problem-solver, comfortable with 5-Why, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies
- Experience on a live chemical manufacturing site is advantageous
