- Salary: £53,280 - £66,600 per annum

About the Role
At SP Energy Networks, our focus is on harnessing technology and innovation to create the networks of the future. With renewable energy demands growing, our team is building a dynamic, secure, and sustainable infrastructure for the communities we serve.
The Control Room oversees the distribution network for 1.5 million customers across Merseyside, Cheshire, and North Wales, managing both planned and fault services. The Control Engineer is a shift-based role in Customer Service, reporting to the Senior Control Engineer.
This position is integral as SP Energy Networks transitions into a Distribution System Operator (DSO). You’ll play an exciting role in shaping future distribution network strategy, ensuring exceptional customer service, network security, and flexible energy resource access.
What You’ll Be Doing
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Core Operations & Incident Management
- Facilitate net-zero transition initiatives for Customer Services Delivery in line with distribution network changes.
- Coordinate outage planning and liaise with internal and external stakeholders to manage network activities.
- Define and manage outage requests, ensuring minimal disruption while maintaining system security and risk mitigation.
Technical Expertise & Decision-Making
- Advise on high-voltage network matters, including post-fault analysis and system performance reviews.
- Proactively oversee customer service outcomes to meet all KPIs and service standards.
- Implement contingency and emergency plans, escalating high-impact incidents where necessary.

Reporting & Compliance
- Complete statutory reporting and follow-up paperwork for network incidents.
- Monitor CML (Client Messaging Library) requests to minimise operational impact.
Process Improvement & Team Engagement
- Actively develop new processes to enhance safety, customer service, and operational efficiency.
- Support data accuracy for IT systems and contribute to performance optimisation.
- Lead and coach shift teams to strengthen safety culture and team cohesion.
What You’ll Bring
Professional Experience & Qualifications
- HNC (or equivalent experience) / Degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.
- Essential: Detailed knowledge of distribution and network systems.
- Ideally: Experience as a Senior Authorised Person in High Voltage Operations, with first-hand experience in outage planning and network management.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong analytical skills for post-fault analysis and asset data review.
- Proven ability to coordinate complex, multi-stakeholder tasks and drive solutions.
- In-depth understanding of energy network policies, safety regulations, and distributed system operations.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and influencing skills, with leadership experience.
- Ability to set and deliver objectives in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.
