# Controls Engineer (Data Centre HVAC & Control Systems) – Contract Role

About the Role

Insight Global is looking for a Controls Engineer to join its hyperscaler client on a long-term contract. You will adapt central data centre R&D design templates for regional deployment across European data centre projects, ensuring localisation for countries such as Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, and Belgium.

Key responsibilities include working with HVAC control systems, BMS, EPMS, and PLC/SCADA environments, designing solutions and ensuring compliance with European standards while supporting the entire project lifecycle from design to operations.

Daily Responsibilities

  • Adapt centrally developed design templates for regional European markets (HVAC, BMS, EPMS, PLC/SCADA) while ensuring alignment with regional standards and engineering requirements.
  • Collaborate with A/E design consultants, peer-reviewing technical deliverables such as:
    • Control sequences
    • Panel schematics and layouts
    • Technical documentation (specifications, drawings)
  • Support the full project lifecycle, contributing to:
    • Design development
    • Technical writing
    • System testing & acceptance
    • Review of as-builts and submittals
  • Bridge design → construction → operations, ensuring designs are implemented correctly on-site and operational handover is smooth, with FTEs providing final sign-off.
  • Support continuous design improvements through:
    • Issue resolution
    • Change management
    • Reliability/availability enhancements
    • Compliance (Low Voltage Directive, Machinery Directive)
  • Partner with onsite teams and Data Centre Operations for post-deployment support, managing:
    • System updates, modifications, and changes
    • On-demand enhancements
  • Work in a multi-project environment (~7 active projects) covering:
    • Localised design localisation
    • Construction alignment
    • Operational handover activities
  • Travel to European sites required (30–50% travel, typically Mon–Wed), engaging in both construction and operations phases.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
