Role Description

The Control Panel Builder role is a full-time, workshop position based in Rochester. The role involves assembling and wiring control panels for HVAC, BMS, and other mechanical and electrical systems, following technical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams. Day-to-day tasks include selecting and installing components, routing cables, labelling terminals, and verifying that panels meet safety, quality, and regulatory standards. The Control Panel Builder will collaborate with engineers, project managers, and site teams to ensure panels are built to specification and delivered on schedule. The role may also involve functional testing, fault finding, minor modifications, and occasional support during installation or commissioning.

Skills and requirements

  • Strong technical skills in electrical assembly, panel wiring, and interpreting control schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Experience with control systems, BMS panels, and HVAC or M&E environments or other controls industry, including component selection and layout.
  • Knowledge of relevant electrical standards, health and safety regulations, and safe working practices.
  • Attention to detail in labelling, documentation, and quality checking of built panels.
  • Ability to use hand tools, test equipment, and workshop machinery safely and effectively.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
  • Previous experience in a control panel workshop or similar environment is highly beneficial.
