Join Hitachi Energy and help power a more sustainable future. As a Control & Protection Software Design Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of transforming the global energy landscape through our industry-leading HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) technology.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on complex, large-scale energy infrastructure projects that enable the integration of renewable power, strengthen electricity networks, and support the world's journey towards net zero. Working alongside a team of highly skilled engineers and industry experts, you'll play a key role in designing, developing, and delivering advanced control and protection software solutions that keep critical power systems operating safely, reliably, and efficiently.

At Hitachi Energy, you'll be empowered to innovate, solve challenging technical problems, and contribute to projects that make a real difference. If you're passionate about engineering, driven by technology, and motivated by the opportunity to shape the future of energy transmission, we'd love to hear from you.

Please note that this is a hybrid role, requiring attendance at our Glasgow or Birmingham office for three days per week.

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this position, and applicants must have the right to work in the UK at the time of application.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
