Controls Engineer

Controls Engineer

Your Role

As a Controls Engineer, your mission is to write control and visualisation software for products developed by Edwards, in accordance with the functional software specification. You will follow comprehensive software development procedures, including the creation of design and test documentation while reporting to the Lead Controls Engineer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Software Development

    • Understand and apply software requirement specifications prepared by other teams.
    • Review specifications created by others and provide constructive feedback where necessary.
    • Develop control and visualisation software based on functional requirements.
  • Testing & Validation

    • Work safely following approved test procedures and risk assessments.
    • Actively contribute to the preparation of test documents.
  • Planning & Documentation

    • Plan short-term actions and report progress effectively.
    • Participate in software plans as part of broader project planning.
    • Create supporting documentation for software release, installation, and maintenance.
    • Provide technical content for manuals, build notes, and service instructions.

Requirements

We encourage applications from candidates who meet most or some of the criteria, as we value diverse experiences and perspectives.

Essential

  • HND (or equivalent) or degree in a relevant technical discipline, preferably in controls, software engineering, electronics, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming, including:
    • Ladder logic
    • Structured text
    • Function blocks
    • Data structures
  • HMI programming experience using VB.NET or similar high-level languages.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • P&I diagrams
    • Electrical schematics
  • Administering software configuration control tools, version numbering, release processes, and archiving.

Desirable

  • 3+ years of experience in controls and software development within relevant industries.
  • Communications protocols knowledge, particularly:
    • Modbus TCP
    • Ether-Cat
Competencies
  • Good level of spoken and written English (required for technical communications).

Occasional Travel

  • Customer site visits may be necessary as part of this role.

Job Location

This position offers hybrid working, allowing you to split time between remote work and the Bristol office, UK.
