MERITUS are recruiting for a Controls Engineer to join our client in Telford that design bespoke systems solutions for industries such as Aerospace, Defence, FMCG and Agriculture. MERITUS are working with an innovative engineering business specialising in advanced automation and control systems to recruit a Controls Engineer.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing engineering team, developing PLC software, commissioning bespoke automation systems and supporting customers across a variety of industrial applications both in the UK and overseas.

The Role
Working as part of an experienced engineering team, you'll be involved throughout the full project lifecycle, from PLC software development and system testing through to commissioning, customer support and operational handover.

This is a varied role that combines office-based engineering with regular UK and international travel to customer sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and modify PLC software using Allen Bradley (Rockwell) and Siemens S7 / TIA Portal.
- Develop structured control software including ladder logic, statement list and function block programming.
- Configure industrial communications including EtherNet/IP, Modbus and Profibus.
- Configure AC/DC drives and inverter systems.
- Develop and tune PID control loops for process applications including flow, pressure, temperature, humidity and level control.
- Test and validate hardware and software prior to customer delivery.
- Commission new automation systems on customer sites across the UK and internationally.
- Provide technical support, fault finding and diagnostics both remotely and on-site.
- Deliver customer training following successful project completion.
- Support the development of robot and PLC software solutions.

About You
We're looking for an engineer with a passion for industrial automation and control systems who enjoys solving technical challenges and working directly with customers.
You'll ideally have:
- Significant experience programming Allen Bradley (Rockwell) PLCs.
- Experience with Siemens S7 / TIA Portal.
- PLC software development experience, including ladder logic, function blocks and structured programming.
- Experience with PLC and SCADA systems.
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols including EtherNet/IP, Modbus and Profibus.
- Experience configuring drives and inverter systems.
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- Experience testing and commissioning industrial automation systems.
- Excellent communication skills with the confidence to work directly with customers.
- A willingness to travel throughout the UK and internationally.
Desirable Experience
- Ignition SCADA.
- Robot programming.
- Systems, software and hardware development.
