Controls Systems Engineer
Controls Systems Engineer – Permanent Role
Dowty Propellers (GE Aerospace), Gloucester
Exciting permanent opportunity within Dowty’s growing multi-disciplined engineering team to work on propeller control systems, supporting new applications and in-service product development.
Key Responsibilities
By working closely with teams at Dowty Propellers, you will:
- Define propeller control system requirements aligned with industry standards (ARP4754 & ARP4761) and safety engineering frameworks
- Propose cost-effective control solutions tailored to project needs
- Analyse control system performance in simulation environments, integrating propeller, engine, and airframe elements
- Develop technical specifications for control units, supporting subcontract design and manufacture
- Collaborate with customers and suppliers to build strong technical relationships
- Lead technical projects, including project planning, risk management, and budget oversight
- Mentor junior engineers and guide them in delivering moderate-complexity tasks
- Take component or sub-assembly-level design ownership and conduct hardware verification
- Proactively identify key risks that affect customer deliverables and implement mitigation strategies
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including process documentation and technical work instructions
- Maintain adherence to GE Aerospace compliance standards and policies
- Supporting global project integration, testing, and certification (travel may occur)

Essential Qualifications
To be successful, you must meet the following:
- BSc in Systems, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Design Engineering (or equivalent)
- Experience in aerospace or automotive systems, with a focus on control systems or embedded systems
- Strong familiarity with control system analysis, simulation, and testing methodologies
- Working knowledge of ARP4754 (systems engineering) and ARP4761 (safety engineering)
- Proven ability to develop high-integrity or safety-critical control solutions
- Proficiency in problem-solving and DoORS requirements management tool
- Matlab/Simulink knowledge essential
- Microsoft Office literacy

- Understanding of hydraulic system design & mechanical/control system integration
- Familiarity with electro-hydraulic or electro-mechanical actuation
