At Adept Care Homes, we provide exceptional residential and dementia care across our family-run care homes throughout the Midlands. Our mission is simple: to help residents live enriched, happy, and fulfilling lives in a warm, supportive environment.

We are currently looking for a caring and reliable Cook to join our team at The Old Vicarage, a charming 44-bed residential care home in Clay Cross, Chesterfield.

About The Role

As a Cook, you will play a key role in ensuring our residents receive nutritious, appetising meals that support their health and wellbeing. You will be responsible for preparing and cooking a fresh breakfast each morning, as well as preparing fresh produce and accompaniments to complement daily meals. You will help maintain high standards of food quality, hygiene, cleanliness, and kitchen organisation.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing and cooking a fresh breakfast for residents each morning
  • Preparing fresh fruit, vegetables, salads, and other produce to accompany meals
  • Planning and preparing daily meals in line with dietary requirements and preferences
  • Ensuring all food is prepared, cooked, and presented to a high standard
  • Ordering food, ingredients, and kitchen supplies to ensure adequate stock levels are maintained
  • Monitoring stock levels, supporting stock control, stock rotation, and the safe storage of food supplies
  • Minimising waste through effective stock management
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness throughout the kitchen and food preparation areas
  • Washing dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment as required
  • Ensuring food safety, allergen management, and hygiene regulations are followed at all times
  • Helping create a positive dining experience for our residents through quality food and excellent service
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure the smooth running of the kitchen and meal service operations

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
