Cook – Temporary Part-Time Role (24 Hours/Week)
Location: South Lanarkshire
Contract: Permanent part-time (24 hours average per week, rolling 2-week rota)
We are seeking an experienced Cook to join our team, helping us create delicious meals while supporting our care services with a caring and skilled approach.
About the Role
The Cook will prepare meals in accordance with the menu while managing kitchen workflow, ensuring adherence to food safety standards and sanitation protocols. This role involves meal planning, ingredient ordering, preparation, and collaborating closely with the catering assistant. Physical mobility and effective multitasking are essential, along with experience handling various ingredients and cooking methods.
You will contribute to a vibrant team that ensures our kitchen operates efficiently and delivers nutritious, high-quality meals to support people in need.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve meals under set menu standards, ensuring nutritional value and presentation
- Assist with menu planning and ingredient ordering
- Prep and cook ingredients efficiently while maintaining kitchen cleanliness
- Work collaboratively with the catering assistant to manage operations
- Apply best practices in food safety, sanitation, and storage
- Collaborate on meal planning, pre-post shift duties, and kitchen stock rotation where needed
Conditions
- Hours: 24 average per week across a two-week rolling rota
- Week 1: Monday, Saturday, Sunday (9.30am–6.30pm, 1-hour unpaid break inside)
- Week 2: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday (same hours)
- Competitive pay rate: £14.04 per hour

Requirements
- Previous professional experience in a kitchen environment (catering, restaurant, or social welfare sector)
- Experience planning, sourcing, and prepping food, plus adequate knife skills
- Commitment to cleanliness, safety, and meticulous housekeeping standards
- Resilience to multitask and meet dynamic demand
- Technical knowledge of meal production times and team co-ordination
- Personal quality of exceptional safety standards and housekeeping
Additionally, you must be able to set aside time to regularly participate in:
- Paid training sessions for induction and optional professional development.
- Occasionally work weekends and evenings (shifts are sympathetic, though student or export contacts aren’t expected).
