Second Chef – Silvanna Court, Runwood Homes

Location: Care Home, Silvanna Court Hours per week: 20 hours Salary: £13.45 per hour

About The Role

We are currently recruiting for a Second Chef to join our Hospitality team at Runwood Homes. Working in this role, you will be responsible for delivering hotel and restaurant-standard meals while enjoying flexible working hours without the need for split shifts or long duties.

We are seeking warm, motivated, and passionate Second Chefs who are committed to maintaining high standards and delivering person-centred hospitality to our residents. You will support our Head Chefs and take the lead in their absence.

We want someone who loves cooking and values quality food that enhances residents’ experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure all stages of food preparation are carried out to the highest standards to support residents' well-being.
  • Prepare and serve meals accurately in line with the company menu and requirements.
  • Maintain full compliance with Food Safety & Hygiene (England) Regulations 2013 and all relevant legal standards
  • Oversee the quality of meals in terms of presentation and taste, achieving excellence in every dish.
  • Enforce portion control procedures to minimise waste effectively.
  • Accommodate individual dietary requirements (such as high-calorie, low-sugar, or special allergies) by using charts, recipes, or adapting dishes when necessary.
  • Maintain systems and checks that guarantee a safe, healthy, and efficient working environment.
  • Ensure proper storage and handling of all food and supplies.
  • Monitor stock levels, implement effective stock rotation, and place orders as required.
  • Deputise for the Head Chef when needed.

To succeed in this role, you should have:

  • Relevant experience in a catering, hospitality, or residential care environment.
  • A strong understanding of special dietary needs and nutritional requirements.
  • Expertise in adapting menus and methods to ensure all dietary needs are met.
  • A legally achieved Food Hygiene Level 2 qualification, and ideally a Level 2 NVQ in Catering.
