Cook (20 hours per week) – Cygnet Hospital Sheffield

We are looking for an outstanding Cook, passionate about food and wanting to make a real impact.
About the Role
You’ll be working 20 hours per week (2 days per week, 7am–5.30pm, including alternative weekends) at Cygnet Hospital Sheffield, creating an exceptional dining experience for the women and young people in our care.
Cygnet Hospital Sheffield operates across two key service areas:
- A lowSecure inpatient service for women, supported by a multi-disciplinary team helping service users regain independence, maintain family ties, and plan for discharge. Emphasis includes community engagement, therapy, meaningful activities, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
- A CAMHS (Child & Adolescent Mental Health) service for male and female adolescents, split across PICU (Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit) and general wards, with tailored multidisciplinary support for each young person’s needs.

Key Responsibilities
In your role as a Cook, you’ll be responsible for:
- Preparing, cooking, and serving nutritional, balanced and appetising meals for patients, staff, and visitors
- Liaising with nursing colleagues to meet patients’ specific nutritional and dietary needs
- Ensuring kitchen cleanliness and hygiene standards across kitchen, service areas, and dining rooms
- Supervising kitchen staff when deputising for the Head Chef
- Maintaining personal hygiene compliance with Cygnet standards and food hygiene regulations
- Handling, maintaining, and storing kitchen equipment according to Cygnet procedures
- Adhering to COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) guidelines for safe chemical usage
Person Specification
You are…
- A skilled and motivated chef, ideally with experience in the care sector
- In possession of a basic food hygiene certificate, alongside demonstrating strong personal hygiene standards
- Polite, professional, and personable, with a positive attitude towards both internal and external interactions
- An excellent communicator, effective at collaborating with diverse team members and stakeholders
- Able to work independently, in a team, and under supervision
