Cook – Redcar Primary Care Hospital

About The Role

This position will be based at Redcar Primary Care Hospital, working a rolling 2-week rota with the following hours and pay:

  • Week 1 (Monday–Wednesday): 07:00 AM–1:15 PM, 18.75 hours/week at £14.21/hour
  • Week 2 (Friday, Saturday & Sunday): Friday: 07:00 AM–1:00 PM at £14.21/hour (Weekday shift) Saturday + Sunday: 07:30 AM–5:00 PM at £18.48/hour

Successful candidates will be expected to cover sickness and holiday leave.

Qualifications

  • City & Guilds 706/1/2 or the NVQ equivalent
  • Production Chef Level 2 (or equivalent nursing/supported living culinary experience welcomed)

This role involves preparing meals for a supported residential setting, promoting well-being and stability for individuals transitioning back into the community. You’ll join a small, supportive team, delivering high-quality catering in a structured environment.


Key Responsibilities

As a Cook at OCS, your core responsibilities include:

  • Preparing and cooking meals following planned menus, recipes, and portion guidelines
  • Ensuring food is well-presented, nutritious, and reflective of high hygiene standards
  • Maintaining food safety, hygiene, kitchen cleanliness, and safety protocols
  • Managing stock levels, including basic ordering and minimising food waste
  • Supporting smooth kitchen operations and team workflows
  • Adhering to all Food Safety, Health & Safety, and site procedures
  • Contributing to a positive, respectful environment for colleagues and residents

Ideal Candidate

Essential

  • Right to Work in the UK, with willingness to undergo a DBS check
  • City & Guilds 706/1/2 or NVQ equivalent OR Production Chef Level 2 qualification
  • Proven understanding of food hygiene and kitchen safety standards
  • Ability to work independently, responsibly, and with clear processes
  • Reliable, consistent, and professional approach
  • Good communication skills and a non-judgemental, respectful demeanour

Desirable

  • Experience in supported living, residential care, or public sector catering
  • Awareness of the importance of routine and structured routines in care settings
