Summary Of Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of Clubs, the Tech Center Coordinator plays a key lead role in the day-to-day operations of the Best Buy Teen Tech Center, including high-quality program development, implementation, and delivery of smooth site operations including collaboration with internal teams, external staff and networks, and community partners.
This role blends technology-rich youth engagement, community outreach, partnership development, and operational leadership to ensure the space is a vibrant, inclusive, and youth-led space to deliver meaningful outcomes to young people in our community in creativity, learning, and career exploration.
Job Duties
- Lead and oversee the day-to-day operations of the Tech Center, ensuring effective program delivery, staffing, facility management, and coordination across BGC and alignment with organizational standards and grant requirements.
- Plan, coordinate, and deliver youth-led, project-based recreational, educational, and technology-focused programming that reflects participant interests and supports digital media, STEAM, and creative exploration.
- Build supportive relationships with youth and provide guidance in project development, behaviour management, and skill-building, while connecting participants to educational pathways, career opportunities, mentors, and community resources.
- Lead outreach, promotion, and relationship-building with families, schools, community organizations, and partners to increase participation, strengthen collaboration, and expand mentorship and opportunity networks.
- Recruit, onboard, supervise, schedule, and support staff and volunteers, ensuring safe work practices, adherence to policies, and ongoing development.
- Plan and support events such as showcases, camps, open houses, and tours; contribute to storytelling, fundraising, and communications efforts; and represent the Tech Center in community engagement initiatives.
- Manage administrative functions including program planning, scheduling, record-keeping, data tracking, reporting, and maintaining accurate documentation to meet internal and external (e.g., funder) requirements.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment, including oversight of technology systems, equipment upkeep, facility security, and emergency procedures.

Requirements
- Clear Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector).
- An undergraduate degree in recreation, social services, child, and youth care, or equivalent (a diploma in recreational programming, child and youth care, or community service worker with two years of experience in supervision and program planning).
- 3–5 years of experience working with children and/or youth in a recreational, community-based, or social services setting with proven behaviour management experience and program development.
- Experience or strong interest in creative technology (such as green screens and 3D printers), digital media, or STEAM learning spaces (some training provided).
- Demonstrated experience working independently in community outreach, partnership development, and stakeholder engagement, include parents and guardians.
- Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and administrative skills, with the ability to effectively balance competing priorities across program delivery, administration (including data tracking), and outreach activities.
- Willingness and ability to travel as required and commitment to ongoing learning including participating in regular training and professional development.
- Demonstrated ability to use and troubleshoot basic technology and maintaining a variety of software and hardware.
- Child Care First Aid and CPR certification (must be obtained within 3 months).
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI) training (must be obtained within 3 months).
- Second language and experience working with culturally diverse people are assets.
- A class 4 driver's license is an asset.
- Willingness to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings. This position is based on a 37.5-hour work week. It is recognized that on occasion the Coordinator may be required to work flexible or additional hours due to the demands of a particular activity or situation. It is expected that the weekly schedule will be adjusted accordingly (time off) to stay within the parameters of the 37.5-hour work week.

Note
This is a full-time (37.5 hrs./week) salary position ($59,963.00 to start), with group benefits at six months, pension after one year, three weeks paid vacation leave in the first year, paid sick and personal leave, paid birthday off, and up to 5 days statutory holiday substitution days per year to celebrate/recognize religious, cultural, and/or personal days that are important to the employee where those days are not currently recognized as statutory holidays in BC/Canada).
