Job Description

Copy Editor

Salary: £28,000 - £31,000 per annum, depending on experience

Job Type: Fixed-Term (10 Months), Full-Time, 37.5 hours per week

Location: IB (International Baccalaureate®) Global Centre, Cardiff

Hybrid working opportunity, office presence required one day per week

About The Role

The Copy Editor is responsible for collaborating on the development of content and the review and implementation of house style across all IB examinations, mark schemes, and other assessment materials, and for project managing the development, proofing, and delivery of translated assessments within the Exam Publishing team of the Assessment Development and Delivery Department.

The role requires a high level of copy editing, proofing, and organizational skills to develop and deliver critical high-quality, error-free assessments on time and to a detailed session plan. The role manages translation teams, including external specialists and suppliers, and works collaboratively peer-to-peer with internal staff across the organization. This is an integral role in maintaining the professional image of the IB organization through continually striving to improve the quality of published material.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with colleagues within the Assessment Development and Delivery Department in the development, delivery, and copy editing of material as required.
  • Support the exception reporting process and manage individual actions created from it.
  • Responsible for the standardization and implementation of house style and branding across the IB.
  • Manage the on-time and accurate delivery of all material required in the translation production process (including specimen materials for Curriculum).
  • Manage records, policy compliance, and accurate payments throughout the translation process.
  • Analyse comments from external specialists and manage the response appropriately to ensure assessment quality without compromising the production schedule.
  • Establish, build, and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels to further the effective and efficient delivery of all assessment publishing material.
  • Guide internal and external stakeholders through security processes and feedback as necessary.
  • Ensure support and consistent implementation of changes to processes in line with the IB strategic and the Education Office objectives.

Qualifications

About You

  • Hold a degree or equivalent qualification, or substantial practical experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in language, linguistics, and translation management within a relevant professional setting.
  • Editorial experience and proficient English language skills (equivalent to C1 or C2 in CEFRL).
  • An understanding of the operational needs of a global organization to meet relevant operational requirements.
  • The ability to communicate and interact confidently and clearly with staff at all levels, within teams, and across departments globally.
  • Excellent command of the English language relevant to the operational needs of a publishing department.
  • The ability and flexibility to make decisions while working with stakeholders from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • A keen attention to detail, such as a qualification in proofreading and/or copy editing.
  • Decisiveness in making decisions that impact the delivery of assessment publication materials.
  • The capacity to work independently under pressure and provide solutions to changing priorities and deadlines.
