I’m currently partnering with a leading global energy trading organisation looking to hire a Core Platform Software Engineer to join a highly collaborative engineering team responsible for technology that underpins critical trading operations.
This is an opportunity to work on software that sits at the heart of a global trading business, developing and enhancing enterprise platforms that support the full transaction lifecycle across front, middle and back office functions. You’ll work on a combination of core business platforms and bespoke in-house applications, helping deliver scalable, reliable solutions within a fast-paced, technology driven environment.
The role offers a mix of software engineering, platform development and stakeholder collaboration, giving you the opportunity to work across enterprise applications, APIs, data integration, cloud technology and modern DevOps practices. You’ll play an important role in improving platform capability, automation, and resilience while working alongside experienced engineers and business users.
They’re looking for an adaptable engineer who enjoys solving complex, technical challenges, takes ownership of their work and thrives in collaborative environments where technology has a direct impact on the business.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
